Parents and grandparents sponsorship.
The Parents and Grandparents Program is Canada's family reunification stream for parents and grandparents. Intake is capped and follows an invitation-based process managed by IRCC.

Who this is for
Canadian citizens and permanent residents who wish to sponsor a parent or grandparent, and those preparing in advance of future intake rounds.
Decision factors
- Sponsor income against the Minimum Necessary Income for three preceding tax years
- Family size and prior undertakings
- Legal status of the sponsor
- Where the parent or grandparent will settle and receive care
Evidence commonly needed
- Notices of assessment for the three most recent tax years
- Proof of legal status of the sponsor
- Identity, relationship and status documents for the sponsored parents or grandparents
Process
- Assessment of income and eligibility, including any co-signer strategy
- Preparation of interest to sponsor material for the next intake window
- Full sponsorship application if invited
- Response to IRCC requests through processing to landing
Risks and honest limits
There is no guaranteed invitation. Meeting income thresholds is required in each of the three preceding tax years. Where PGP does not fit, the Super Visa is often the practical alternative.
How an RCIC helps
We check income eligibility carefully, prepare the file so it is ready the moment an intake window opens, and plan a realistic Super Visa strategy in parallel where appropriate.

A few things clients often ask.
Is the PGP currently open?
IRCC opens intake by invitation. Current intake for new sponsors is paused and IRCC has been drawing from earlier interest to sponsor pools. Always verify status on Canada.ca before planning around intake.
What if I do not meet the income requirement?
A co-signer spouse or common-law partner may help. If income remains short, the Super Visa may be the better route.
Can I sponsor step-parents or in-laws?
In some circumstances. Eligibility depends on the specific relationship and status.
